What is root canal treatment?
The pulp, located in the centre of the tooth, contains the nerves and blood vessels that keep your tooth alive. In case of an infection, caused by tooth decay, trauma, or a crack, the resulting inflammation can cause pain and swelling. If the infection is not treated in time, it can spread and seriously damage the tooth and its surrounding tissue.
How is the procedure performed?
- Preparation and anaesthesia: The treatment is carried out under local anaesthesia to ensure the procedure is completely painless
- Removal of infected pulp: After accessing the pulp, the infected tissue is removed and the root canals mechanically cleaned
- Laser disinfection: Using Sweeps laser technology, we accurately disinfect the root canals and destroy bacteria deep within the tissue, which reduces the risk of re-infection
- Tooth filling and restoration: The canals are then filled with a specialized material, and the tooth is restored with a filling or crown to restore its functionality and natural appearance
Advantages of laser treatment
- Less pain and discomfort: Laser technology allows for a less invasive procedure and faster recovery
- Precise disinfection: Lasers eliminate bacteria even in the most hidden areas of root canals, which improves the treatment’s effectiveness
- Faster healing: Laser technology promotes tissue regeneration and accelerates the healing process
What to expect after treatment?
After treatment, you might feel some slight sensitivity or discomfort, which usually subsides within a few days. We recommend using common painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen for pain relief.
Healing and follow-up
In the event of a jawbone infection, healing may take longer. After 9-12 months, we will perform a follow-up X-ray to check on the tooth’s condition. Follow-up examinations are necessary in some cases to ensure the long-term success of the treatment.
